Restoring Justice

If you’re too poor to afford an attorney, have criminal defense legal needs*, and your current appointed representation is inadequate, we’re here to help. Restoring Justice provides loving and holistic legal representation and social services to those most without a voice in our society – the criminally accused.

When Jesus announced who He was to the world and why He came, He said, "the spirit of the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor, freedom for the prisoners, sight for the blind, and to set the oppressed free." (Luke 4:18).

Unfortunately, court-appointed attorneys are too often grossly underpaid, under-resourced, have conflicts of interest, have lost heart, and have no training in client-centered advocacy. In Houston, if you're poor and accused of a crime, there's a 75% chance you'll be given an attorney who is overloaded with cases. Many of these overloaded attorneys are taking over 4 times the recommended caseload. There's no way these attorneys can be upholding the rights of each client. And that 75% is over 48,000 people. 48,000 Houstonians wallowing in our system without an adequate voice.

Restoring Justice strives for redemptive and humanizing services. Every client that we engage is provided a passionate, client-centered attorney, a loving social worker, and a new brother or sister in Christ. We hope and work to see glimpses in this world of the Bible's promise that mercy triumphs over judgment. (James 2:13).

*Currently, Restoring Justice does not handle appeals or capital cases, but can provide resources for such needs. Our services focus on active, pending criminal cases and probation or parole legal needs
