Instead, we are inviting you to skip a gala that is not happening, and to send what a ticket would have cost straight to the work of seamless re-entry discipleship.
If you would like to gather anyway, we will be live from a dinner table for one hour on October 8. You do not have to watch to give, and you do not have to give to watch.
Somebody is coming home to it.
Every discipleship home in our network has a dinner table, and at that table there is always a seat waiting for someone who has not arrived yet.
They are still inside. They have a release date. Between now and that date, somebody has to keep the pantry stocked, the light bill paid, and the place set.
That is what your gift does. It prepares a welcome before there is anyone there to receive it.
One minute at the table
We start before the gate opens.
Most reentry work begins the day somebody is released. Ours begins about a year earlier.
We teach inside the Carol Vance Unit through our Steppin' Out program, week after week, long before anyone has a release date circled. So when a man walks out of that gate, he is not meeting us. He already knows us. He knows the person picking him up. He has already been doing the work for months.
Then he comes home to one of our discipleship homes: a house, a table, a room, and a group of people who have been walking with him the whole way.
Men and women return to Houston every day needing guidance, housing, discipleship, and a safe place to begin again. That handoff, from inside the walls to a seat at a real table, is where most people are lost and it is the reason CrossWalk Center exists.
